Vacation 2009, Day 05, June 15

Well Toto, I think we're back in Kansas, and we are along with the Tornados! More about that later. The day started with breakfast in, then back on I-35 north. Along the highway we saw a sign for G. W. Exotic Animal Park, we stopped and checked it out. They claim to rescue exotic animals from bad situations and give them homes at the park. They said they have over 150 species at the park. We took the short tour, but still saw a lot of animals. After getting back on I-35 I stopped for fuel at Newcastle Ok, There was a Sonic Drive-in next door so we drove over for lunch. When we drove in it looked like there was seating inside and since the RV won't fit in a drive in spot I parked it behind the building and we walked up front to find there was no inside seating! So we stood in one of the drive in spots, pushed the service button and ordered, paid with plastic and waited for the carhop to bring our food which I took back to the RV where we ate in air-conditioned comfort. The biggest difference I noticed between the old drive-ins and the new drive-ins is they don't have the trays that hook on the windows. That's because everybody keeps the windows rolled up and the engine running with the air on. Back on I-35 out of Oklahoma into Kansas where it turned into a turnpike through Wichita Ks to El Dorado Ks where I got the last camping spot available at Deer Grove RV Park. When I checked in the lady told me the tornado shelter was down in the basement under the laundry room and we could get some bad weather. I asked if there was a siren, she said no, somebody would knock on our door and tell us to go to the shelter. After we parked and hooked up Marilyn started supper and it started to rain, then it started to hail, then the lady came and said to go to the office, which we did in the rain and hail. then they told us to go to the basement, where we stayed for about 45 minuets while getting status reports from the office lady where tornados were touching down nearbye. After the all clear we went back to the RV and finished supper. This must be the longest report I have ever made, so I am going to quit now and watch the continuous TV coverage of where the storms and tornado warnings are.
